The project, part of Sheffield City Council’s vision for raising educational standards throughout the city, comprised the construction and operation of two new primary schools – Grenoside and Hinde House and two new secondary schools – Westfield and Meadowhead.
The Westfield Schools development also includes a swimming pool and leisure facilities for the local community.
The total construction value was £52m and the project value is £78m in current value terms.
The schools were built by Kier Regional Ltd, Kier Build being responsible for the secondary schools and Kier Northern the primary schools. Full facilities management, including lifecycle replacement, leisure management and catering services are being provided by Kier Management Services for the duration of the 25 year concession period.
Westfield School was officially opened by the then Prime Minister Gordon Brown in May 2007 and the project was shortlisted for the Public Sector Joint Working Award at the Public Private Finance Awards 2007.
Kajima Partnerships, in conjunction with its long-standing joint venture partner HICL, acquired a 50% interest in the project in May 2011.
